You know how a lot of people were making a big stink over the lead character in 'Memoirs of a Geisha', Sayuri, having blue or grey-blue eyes? A lot of people questioned the credibility of it. Well, Kimiko Tohomiko also has blue eyes and she's Japanese... I guess I'm not necessarily making a point, just an observation. Any thoughts?

Some of these critics like the ones that were making the stink over MOG are putting way too much importance in realism lately. It's a movie based on a fictional book with fictional characters. (At least I think it's fictional, maybe I'm wrong). Anyway, the blue-eyed Asian character makes for an interesting twist in the stories, imo.

And she has blue eyes. The vicious opposition to the idea that a Japanese -- let alone a geisha -- could have blue eyes is sheer out-and-out racism, the subtext being that the only way that could happen would be if one parent was caucasian. And such a person -- the person who didn't choose to have blue eyes -- would be relegated to the lowest strata of Japanese society. I never believe racists are telling the truth.

The DNA website I visited traces that DNA threw Turkey, Jordon, etc. That isn't to far off. If someone stared Genghis Khan down, do you think they would live to tell some body, he had blue in one of his eyes?
