Found this, it should explain who Chu Yuanchang was.

In 1271 Mongol leader Kublai Khan a age 56 declared himself emperor of China.

Kublai Khan died in 1294 AD, and his successors were weaker and less able to keep the Mongol empire together. During the 1350's AD, a revolutionary movement called the Red Turbans became active in northern China. In 1356, the Red Turbans, under the leadership of Chu Yuan-chang, captured Nanjing. Chu Yuan-chang gradually conquered China, and threw out the Mongols. In 1368 AD Chu Yuan-chang declared himself emperor of China, under the name Hung-wu, and then he finally captured the Mongol capital at Beijing, starting the Ming Dynasty.


The movie Musa The Warrior is set in 1375 AD, at the very end of the Yuan Dynasty (Mongols). It's based on a true story about some ambassadors from Korea, who came to China to negotiate with the new Ming Dynasty emperor, Hung-Wu (Chu Yuan-chang), and found themselves arrested and sent into exile instead, because Hung-Wu suspected them of being spies.

The Koreans goal in the movie was to eventually get back to Korea after they were exiled. When they encountered the kidnapped Princess, the Korean Captain decides to save the Princess from the Mongols in order to get help to go back to Korea. However saving the Princess, leads them to being chased by the Mongols throughout the movie until they get cornered in an abandoned fort at the sea's edge. A vicious fight to the last man ensues. (brings to mind "Remember the Alamo", lol) Anyway, at the end, the lieutenant is the only Korean survivor so he builds a boat and sets sail back to Korea all by himself. There was no plan to take the Princess with him and since the Mongol leader who had kidnapped her was killed, she stayed with her people.
