Well... it seems to me that fans of most other well established actresses (Ruby Lin, Cecilia Cheung, Vicki, etc) don't seem to like Ziyi or her fans.
Why? I don't know. I think they see us as upstarts since they attribute Ziyi's meteoric success to luck. But, as time has gone on and Ziyi's fame continues to grow, I believe Vicki's fans are mostly coming to accept Ziyi and her fans.
yogurtpo3 is without doubt one of Vicki's biggest fans. You'll see his posts on most if not all polls related to her. Lately, we've come to be pretty good friends.
Even Vicki's fans are willing to give Ziyi and her fans their props. Just have to know how to deal with them. Some you have to treat like this...
oh rain, i was about to start this thread the other day, but the computer suddenly crushed. I decided to do it the next time around, then you have done it already...........
For some times being, the press had been deliberately trying to forge an illusional rivalry between ziyi and zhao wei. The fabricated story will certainly instigate and infuriated some fans, but for most of the rational people out there, this is merely another rumour from the entertainment sector.
After the traumatized and frustrating military flag scandal, zhao wei's career has suffered a serious setback. However, she still manages to float on the top. Recently, she posed a set of photos for the FHM magazine:
Zhao Wei is a cute girl, no doubt about that. But I honestly think the FHM photos don't do zhao wei justice. Is it the makeup or the lighting? Her face is swarthy, and sometimes greenish. This really adds some ghostly touches to the photo itself.
The girlfriend magazine cover, zhao wei doesn't even look like herself in it:
Another magazine cover, i think this photo is the best among all of what i have posted:
SC, i really applauded for what you have done. It really takes some tremendous efforts to reconcile some hostile individuals.
Thanks, rgr... yeah, I deal with the hostility the best I can.
Those are some decent FHM pics of Vicki. It's that rugged look Ziyi did for a similar photo shoot last year in the US (don't recall the mag). I think Vicki's best features are her eyes and smile. She's quite attractive.
I saw one movie wherein she was paired with Chang Chen (yes, that lucky guy again) in some sort of wuxia-comedy film with Tony Leung and another girl....she's okay, as far as I can see.
zM said Vicki looks like Kris Aquino, a Filipina celeb. But when I look at those FHM pics, I'm thinking "Barbara Milano."
heheh...but in fairness, Kris Aquino has improved as an actress (she really deserved the Best Supporting Actress award, so you better watch Mano Po rightaway! She has improved so much that I think it would now be unfair to compare Vicky Zhao Wei to Kris Aquino, because...hell, Kristeta is a better actress than Vicky!
I honestly think Vicky ZW's cute, really. The only thing that stands in the way is that she's not yet that good.
(haha...I can see what's on Rain's mind...the playboy Tito Pao! )
Hrmph....those FHM photographers couldn't take a good photograph of a pretty gal to save their miserable lives. Vicki looked AWFUL in that FHM shoot. I should know, I got the Singapore FHM with those pics. They also managed to mangle Christy Chung and Vanessa Mae too - now THAT takes some talent
It looks like they were trying to go for that rough, bad girl image with that shoot. They really missed the mark. Vicki's very beautiful... They should've tried accentuating that beauty more than diminishing it...
Last year, Vicki stirred a big stink in China when she wore a dress with the Japanese Battle Flag on it. I mean, it was really a big deal, nearly threatening her career because of deep-seated anti-Japanese feelings still in China since the last World War. She was even physically threatened too!
Anyway, I just came across a pic of her in that dress:
It may have sent the wrong message, but I've also thought that she looks incredibly sexy and sultry in it!
As an honorable and proud person of Chinese descent, I would have demanded that she take off that offensive dress at that very instant! Luckily for her I wasn't present that moment of the shoot!
I don't really have any feelings of that one way or another. Since I'm definitely not anti-Japanese, I didn't live through the Japanese occupation, and the main Japanese people responsible for WWII are dead, it doesn't bother me too much. She could have worn a British flag...a century before WWII British soldiers had raped and pillaged during the Opium war....
